CEVA Logistics is strengthening its global automotive logistics footprint with the addition of three roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessels, establishing a new monthly deep-sea route connecting Far East Asia with Central and South America.

CEVA Logistics announced on May 28 the expansion of its finished vehicle logistics (FVL) services with a dedicated Far East to Latin America shipping lane. This regular trade lane, bolstered by new RORO capacity, marks a significant step in CEVA’s global strategy to support the automotive industry with end-to-end delivery capabilities.

The new route includes port calls across China, South Korea, and Japan, connecting to key automotive markets in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, and Argentina. By tapping into its ground logistics network in the Americas, CEVA aims to streamline vehicle flows from production facilities straight to end-dealers.

The latest expansion is powered by three new deep-sea vessels with capacities between 5,500 and 7,000 car equivalent units (CEUs), bringing CEVA’s total operational fleet to nine vessels. These ships feature lift decks that accommodate a wide range of cargo—from passenger vehicles to trucks, construction equipment, and other high and heavy machinery.

Since entering the maritime vehicle transport segment in 2023 through a 10-year lease with Eastern Pacific Shipping, CEVA Logistics has continued to scale. The original four vessels—LNG dual-fuel hybrids—set the foundation. With this latest deployment, the company extends its coverage across four major trade lanes globally.

So far, CEVA reports having moved more than 225,000 vehicles using its RORO services. In 2024 alone, its FVL division handled over 6.1 million units globally, placing the company among the top providers of integrated automotive logistics solutions.

The vessels’ flexibility allows CEVA to cater to both regular trade lane demand and custom “spot” solutions. A notable example was a recent operation aboard the 5,500-CEU Lake Fuxian, which carried a mix of vehicles and construction machinery from China to South Africa’s Port of Durban. The vessel then continued to Vitoria, Brazil, where it discharged the remaining cargo—around 2,500 vehicles and equipment units—demonstrating CEVA’s adaptable routing capabilities.

What distinguishes CEVA in this segment is not just maritime coverage but its ability to provide true end-to-end service. The company leverages a combination of inland trucking, rail solutions, and vehicle compounds to ensure seamless transitions from factory to final destination.

In Latin America, CEVA operates vehicle yards and has established delivery networks in place. This enables OEMs and fleet distributors to receive cargo either at port or directly within their own distribution ecosystems. According to Emmanuel Cheremetinski, global FVL leader at CEVA, this comprehensive approach enhances reliability while offering flexibility.

“With end-to-end solutions from factory to dealer, this expansion of our RORO vessel fleet directly reflects the value we offer our customers,” said Cheremetinski. “The additional vessels allow us to provide both reliability and flexibility through our new regular trade lane rotation and our global spot solutions.”

By combining maritime capacity with on-the-ground assets, CEVA aims to meet rising demand from automakers facing mounting pressure to optimize delivery timelines across continents.
